Responsibility of Awareness

Living day-to-day is a struggle for the best of us.  Each moment our eyes are open we need to make decisions that, it seems, are going to have an everlasting effect on our lives.  As people come & go from our lives they allow us to have various experiences that, in turn, allow us to understand ourselves a bit better.  That understanding can only take place if a 'responsibility of awareness' is taken on.  'Responsibility of Awareness' is simply being aware of what is going on inside your mind & spirit.  Realising that you feel differently towards various things.

For example, when someone is yelling at you for making a mistake that will make you feel upset.  'Responsibility of Awareness' is that which allows you to acknowledge why you feel upset.  The fact that there is someone yelling at you is a good reason to be upset for most of us, but if we take responsibility for ourselves and look into the reason why we feel that way.  An understanding of self will take place, the more responsibility we take, the more thought we will put into 'why we feel that way'.  And as a result, the better the understanding.

What this achieves is very simple really.  By taking responsibility for ourselves and our awareness, we understand why we react certain ways to certain things.  And as a result, we will (in time) be able to accept that feeling that comes to us, and not let it 'take over' so much.  As such, allowing us to control ourselves in 'testing moments' better.  The more that this is practised the more control we find we have, and as a result of that 'control of self' we will also feel better about ourselves.

For one reason or another we have all thought at some point "If only I could be like 'that person', they always seem to have the answers.  They always seem to be happy."  The truth is though, that 'that person' is very similar to you.  When it comes down to it, we are all very similar in this aspect of life.  Very few of us can say that 'everything is perfect'.  And that's the key.  Those that are able to say that have come to an understanding of themselves that most of us can't understand.  The reason we can't understand this is simply because we are so caught up in day-to-day existence, and never 'have time' to really think about ourselves and what is going on in our lives.   Those that can say 'Life is perfect' have realised that life is a set of experiences, each experience is there to teach us a little more about ourselves.  But those who believe that life is nothing more-nothing less that just 'existence' are those that get caught up easily, effect easily by others, and are constantly looking for someone that can 'give them happiness'.  No one can 'give' another happiness simply because happiness is a 'feeling on the inside'.  An nobody but 'the self' can supply that for an ongoing basis.

Shame we teach our children at a young age "If you do 'this' you will be happy", "If you be this way you will be happy", etc.  Focus on your own happiness today, think back to childhood.  Something you enjoyed doing, someone you enjoyed being with, a memory of a good holiday.  It doesn't matter what it is you think about, it will bring a smile to your face.  Once that smile is there, take notice of how you 'feel'.  Find things in your life that supply you with 'that feeling'.  The more you focus on finding things for yourself, the easier your happiness will come to you.

Peace & Love.
